1984 Schmid Beatrix Potter Simpkin Hanging Ornament

New, Old Store Stock. Vintage 1984 Beatrix Potter Simpkin Hanging Ornament from Schmid.  Never used. In Excellent condition for its age. Free of cracks, chips, stains, and crazing.

Hand-painted polished glaze ceramic ornament. The cat is in the story of The Tailor of Gloucester. The story is about a tailor whose work on a waistcoat is finished by the grateful mice he rescues from his cat “Simpkin” and was based on a real world incident involving a tailor and his assistants. For years, Potter declared that of all her books it was her personal favorite.

A shiny glaze covers the vibrant Simpkin and shows off the beautiful shade of the cat’s green coat and pink bag. Original tag is still attached to the original gold cord of this ornament. It is stamped on the back “c FW Co 1984”. Simpkin was originally purchased for my former store as part of my Beatrix Potter Schmid collection in 1985. This is the last Simpkin ornament left in my inventory. I will also include a gift box to store your ornament in.

All of the Schmid ornaments are retired as Schmid & Company closed its doors in 1995.
