1987 Silvestri Dollcrafter Classics Traditional Santa

New, Old Store Stock.  1987 Silvestri Dollcrafter Classics Traditional Santa Claus.  Artfully crafted of Bone China hands, boots and face.  Hand painted. Soft materials for body.  Bone China shoulder plate and lower limbs, cloth body with armature. This Santa has a sack of gifts and is portrayed in an an outfit common in the 1920s.  Red flannel color hat, jacket and pants. What is unusual is that he is trimmed in a black faux fur along with black boots.

His beard is made out of twisted white cotton strands.  Detailed hand painted face with brown eyes and rosy cheeks.  The sack is made of burlap tied up with jute and accented with a gold color French Horn. In his sack is a blue wood rocking horse, tree, ball and teddy bear.  Includes a white wood and red stripe candy cane hanging from the side of the sack.

Santa did not always wear the red costume with white trim that is popular today.  Earlier  costumes included  purple and white, and red and black.  Knickerbockers on Santa were popular in the 1920s and the red and white outfit caught on in the late 1930s and 1940s.

Measurement:  ABT 14 inches tall on a 1 inch wood base for a total height of about 15 inches.
