Vintage 1980s Dark Green Coil Rattan Wicker Basket

Vintage, Old Store Stock. In exceptional condition for age.

1980 Handwoven manila hemp oval shaped basket. The basket was weaved with multiple color twine threads of pale green with bands of rust and a golden yellow design surrounding the basket. Has a very tight weave. Stunning and stylish basket to dress up a table, counter, or shelf. Looks nice with and artificial or real plant. Use also to store items neatly away.

I only have one of these hemp baskets left. They were made exclusively for Shafford company in the Philippines. This was part of a designer line I carried in my former store.

Care: Display indoors for longer lifespan and keep dry.

Handcrafted by artisans, variation in color, shape, and size is to be expected. Manila hemp, also known as Abaca a type of buff-colored fiber obtained from Musa textilis (a relative of bananas), which is likewise called Manila hemp. Commonly used to make rope or line.

Made from the Abaca plant, Manila rope largely replaced hemp 200 years ago. Being 20% stronger, and much more economical than hemp, manila rope captures the imagination of people today as being quintessentially nautical and industrial.
