Originally purchased in the 1980s. This is a beautiful handmade Double Spout Wedding Vases ceremonial wedding vase with twisted handle. The Wedding Vase is an ancient vessel still used in Native American wedding ceremonies. Each spout of the vessel represents one of those to be wed. The looped handle represents the unity achieved with marriage. The space created within the twisted loop represents the circle of life. In the traditional ceremony, the couple drink nectar (prepared by the medicine man) from the spouts to represent the blending of their lives. The pot is a reflection of the ancient rite.

Colors grey, sand, black, turquoise, blue. Bird and feathers designs encompass the exterior. Feathers are widely believed among North American Indians to signify the connection between the Creator. Feather symbolizes high honor, power, wisdom, trust, strength, and freedom. Birds play a wide variety of roles in Native American Mythology. Because of their amazing power of flight, many are revered as bringers of messages and symbols of change.

This design has 3 blue feathers which means happiness and the three virtues of faith, hope and charity. They show the sacred mountains with rain above them. Mountains also can stand for abundance. Underneath shows turquoise water and grey land. At the bottom of the vase looks like a maze or symbol for which could mean send rain clouds. This could also mean good prospects in the future for their corn. A maze is a traditional symbol for our journey through life. The stenciled illustrations stand out a little higher from the main surface area. Artist signed. This is my last piece of this pottery in my inventory.
