Description

Vintage, Old Store Stock.  MINT Condition. This is a beautiful handmade Vintage sand painting mini two spout wedding vase. The Wedding Vase is an ancient vessel still used in Native American wedding ceremonies. Each spout of the vessel represents one of those to be wed. The looped handle represents the unity achieved with marriage. The space created within the loop represents the circle of life. In the traditional ceremony, the couple drink nectar (prepared by the medicine man) from the spouts to represent the blending of their lives. The pot is a reflection of the ancient rite.

The butterflies that encircle the vase are a symbol of beauty. Colors are of Lavender, Soft Beige, and Blue. Butterfly symbols mean change and balance, in others, ephemeral beauty. Many tribes consider butterflies to be symbols of good luck. Tribes with Butterfly Clans include the Hopi tribe (whose Butterfly Clan is called Poovolngyam or Poval-wungwa).

The 2 vertical lines at the top of the spouts signifies the release of the spirit of the potter or any other spirit that may be associated with the materials that make up the pot/vase. The stenciled illustrations stand out a little higher from the main surface area. Artist signed and dated 86. This is my last piece of this pottery in my inventory.

  • Height: 3 1/4 in

The butterfly has become a metaphor for transformation and hope; across cultures, it has become a symbol for rebirth and resurrection, for the triumph of the spirit and the soul over the physical person. Native American cultures in the Southwestern United States design sand painting on pots and pictures to be framed. They always depict a story or legend.

Sand technique is the art of pouring colored sands and powered pigments from minerals or crystals, or pigments from other natural or synthetic sources to make a fixed or unfixed sand painting. Add this vintage signed Southwest pottery design to your art collection. Would display nicely on a shelf with other similar collectibles. Also enclosed is a write up the traditional Native American Wedding Ceremony.

Items that I sell that are marked vintage, antique or collectible may show some signs of wear to the original boxes or original package when available. See pictures for detail. All of my items come from a smoke-free environment. I do combine shipping on multiple items.
