Description

New old store stock inventory. Vtg 1980 Sunshine Klay-n-Kraft Southwest Luminaria Black Bowl Pueblo Design.

This beautiful hand-painted and crafted Luminaria Southwest Art Pottery made in Tucson, AZ Signed. This is a wonderful piece, so creative and such unique details!, The design on front is a black ware pottery Santa Clara Pueblo bowl which is highly valued by collectors. The design is embellished with 3 real blue turquoise stones below the black pot. Carefully hand-crafted around the top with feathers, twisted leather fringe knotted with turquoise stone on top.  An extra decoration handmade black beads and 4 blue birds neckless on the right side of the pot was added.

Bluebirds symbolize good fortune, fertility, and prosperity. The Navajo and Pueblo tribes associate bluebirds with the sun. In some Pueblo tribes, the Bluebird is identified as the son of the Sun. The birds really caught my eye. Stunning piece that is both decorative and functional. The design of the Santa Clara Pueblo has been made for over 300 years, and the technique for creating it is well-known around the world. It has geometric forms on the pot. All designs are considered important symbols, associated with life-giving rain and water. Pueblo Indian pottery embodies four main natural elements: earth, water, air, and fire. It is an art form literally of land and place and is one of America’s ancient Indigenous creative expressions.

It is signed on the base by the artist who design luminaria in the studio at Sunshine Klay-n-Kraft.  I always went to pick up my order in Tucson at the studio. The artist D.B. knew I would pick this pot she had made because it had so much detail in the design.

In excellent condition no marks, chips or cracks. This is the only Luminaria I have left from my former store. A perfect piece of art for any Southwestern or Native American-themed home décor. Nice gift for a collector.

“Luminaria (lanterns) were introduced by the Spaniards to the Southwest.  Traditionally, the small paper sack, partially filled with sand and luminated by a candle, was used to light the way to the posada (home).  We hope you enjoy Sunshine Kay-n-Krafts’ hand-painted version of this continuing tradition.”
